Plaster Ceiling Repair in Manhattan
Friday, September 12, 2014
Older homes have a lot of charm. The unique, classy lines and styling of decades (even generations!) gone by bring us back to another time, and you are left to wonder what those walls have seen.
Unfortunately, however, along with that charm comes the potential for issues that need to be addressed right away. This is the less than glamorous side to owning an older property. One example of this is the issue of plaster damage, and the need for plaster repair.
Aside from damage due to what we'll call "unnatural causes" (dings, gouges, nail holes, or the occasional flying toy), plaster damage to ceilings and walls can occur because of the building settling; the walls and ceilings shift ever so slightly with the passing decades, and cracks begin to appear.
Water-Damaged Plaster Repair
We recently had the opportunity to repair a plaster ceiling in a pre-war, Upper West Side Manhattan apartment. This time, however, age wasn’t the only culprit; this particular ceiling had experienced a good deal of water damage.
When dealing with repairs in older homes like these, you have to be careful of lead exposure. PNP Craftsmen is EPA certified for this kind of work, meaning that we are trained, prepared, and legally qualified to safely perform a repair like this. To receive this special certification, we were trained by EPA-approved training providers. Additionally, we are fully insured so that you, as the homeowner or building manager, can have complete peace of mind.
As always, our goal was to not just repair this plaster, but to make sure it was done safely and in a quality fashion. And, as you can see by the pictures we have shared, the mission was a success!
